Spring Break: Slide Rock

Today we finally headed down to the Valley of the Sun, but not before seeing more of northern Arizona. There are some really gorgeous areas of Arizona. I know most people equate Arizona to cacti and heat, but that is not all of the state! We wound through Oak Creek Canyon and stopped at Slide Rock. I remember going here as a child too. It's a red rock canyon that has been made smooth by the little river that runs through it; hence the name - Slide Rock. The temperature outside was barely in the 70s so you can imagine how cold the water was! I wasn't about to jump in but all the boys (including Jeff) and Amber did! Crazy!! They had a blast hiking round, splashing around, and hunting for (and de-tailing) lizards. Yup, in the process of grabbing a lizard, Jeff ripped the tail off, which the kids thought was really cool as it was still flipping around. Poor little lizard!

Amber with the lizard tail...I never did get a picture of the lizard.
Laurin avoided the water and kept covered after her serious sunburn.
The rest of the day we continued along Highway 89A through Sedona, Jerome, and Prescott. We stopped in Sedona to explore some of the shops downtown then stopped in Prescott to get some ice cream and sit in the town square. We just drove through the funky little mining town of Jerome and Amber envisioned herself on a small moped driving the narrow switchbacks. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics of these other locations. We finally ended up in the valley around dinnertime. We had dinner with my sister, Nichole, and parents before finally ending up at my parents' house to finally relax! It has been a busy first three days!! The kids (and Jeff and I) were looking forward to sleeping in and taking it easy.
