4th of July

Today we got up and cleaned up camp then headed home. Dad rode with Jeff straight home while Mom went with Krystle, who had to drop Jordan off at the airport to fly home. (She and the boys stayed the remainder of the week with us.) Nichole, Ryan, Tyler, Kate, the kids, and I lingered a little longer up north. We stopped at some frigid natural springs then had lunch in Logan. Nichole then had to take Ryan to the airport while the rest of us pushed on to home. Finally, those of us that were left, met up at our house for a traditional 4th of July BBQ and fireworks. Jonas actually enjoyed the fireworks. I was a little surprised. I thought he wouldn't like the loud booms, but he quietly sat on mine or Jeff's lap and seemed mesmerized by all the lights and colors. As I sat there looking at my family and enjoying the comical display of fireworks that Dallin, Daniel, and Tyler were conducting (there were a few fireworks that were launched in our direction), my heart swelled with gratitude for my family and my country. I can't imagine why I have been so blessed. I am acutely aware of all my flaws, yet somehow the Lord has shown mercy on me and given me my perfect eternal companion, kids who love me in spite of my weaknesses, and family who have always stood by me. I have been given a little piece of heaven to live in and all the comforts we could ever need. I have been granted the rights, privileges and freedoms that are afforded to me because of the country I live in. In that moment, life was perfect...in all its imperfections. I am proud to be an American.
