Birthday candles and boating

Happy 47th Birthday Jeff! I have to admit it seems a little weird that Jeff is only 3 years away from 50. When did that happen? I feel like we will forever be 40 something...at least at heart. Last Sunday (October 11th), we celebrated Jeff's birthday with family since we would be out of town on his actual birthday. We had yummy soup, gifts, and a sinfully delicious chocolate cake. Jonas got Jeff a BBQ utensil set and I got him some cologne. The older kids sent him on a little scavenger hunt for letter clues he had to put together to form the words for the experience they got him. Jeff has never been one to want gifts, but it's fun when I see the love and creativity we use to find those items he wants but has yet to actually buy for himself.

On Thursday (15th), Jonas, Danny, Carson (Jeff's nephew), Jeff and I headed to Lake Powell for the weekend. Fall break or summer vacation? It felt like a little of both. We spent the next two and a half days on the water. The mornings were a little chilly but the water was inviting in the afternoons. Jonas couldn't stay out of the water no matter how much he shivered after getting the boat. He kept reminding us that he's "a little fish". Danny and Carson took turns wakeboarding and surfing. They all enjoyed kneeboarding, tubing, climbing on the rocks, and cliff jumping. I enjoyed the breathtaking views and the crystal clear water. It was also nice to be disconnected from life and truly be in the present. Yes...there were tense moments of frustration as we still learn the nuances of the boat, but there were more moments of serenity as I looked at the boys and Jeff and simply felt blessed. We are not a perfect family, but we keep trying...not for perfection, but for each other. I think Jeff enjoyed his boating birthday - just being together is the only thing he ever really needs.

These last few pictures are from an overlook for Glen Canyon Dam. Lake Powell and the Colorado River have their own majestic beauty.
