The next morning, we headed for the river. While everyone was getting ready, Laurin and I took the kids up to the new playground. Each year the campsite makes some sort of improvement. We're still waiting for the volleyball or basketball courts to be completed, but we enjoy the amenities this site has. Finally, we grabbed our paddle boards, loaded up the raft, and headed to the river. This is mine and Jeff's favorite part of the trip. There are plenty of other places that we launch our boat, but only one river we float. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side this year. It was pretty cloudy and occasionally stormy. While we didn't get much rain on the river, the cloud cover made it a little cold for those who got in the water. This deterred most everyone from a second trip down the river, but Jeff and I went anyway. It was actually pretty nice to have the river to ourselves. It was so quiet and peaceful as we floated down the beautiful canyon.
Saturday (August 10th) was our lake day! Our boat was finally repaired from our Lake Powell trip and we were all ready to get her on the water. We spent the day cliff jumping, surfing, and just having fun. We did have a storm roll over us, but Jeff was prepared with a huge tarp that we draped over the whole boat. Maybe next year we'll have more sunshine...but just as much fun as this year!
