Happy Fall & Halloween!

I always love this time of year. Fall is my favorite season. I not only love the colorfully changing landscape, but I enjoy all the fall festivals, treats, and more. This month, however, was a busy one and I was worried I wouldn't get to fit as much in. So when Jeff suggested that we meet up with Laurin and the kiddos for dinner one evening (because I was supposed to watch them that day, but she got called off of work so Jeff was disappointed he didn't get to hang out with the kiddos), I made the suggestion that we also fit in a fun evening at Jaker's in Springville. We only had about an hour and half to play before they closed, but we still managed to do it all - hayride, corn pits, slides, hay bale maze, and of course, the corn maze. We were actually a little lost in the corn maze as they were closing. It took us another 15 minutes or so to find our way out and the sky was growing darker. Jonas was a little worried since we were technically supposed to be leaving, but we enjoyed spending a little more time finding our way out. And, I was glad that I got to eke out a fall festival.

I was pretty sure that was going to be the extent of my fall festivities, but I was wrong. Jeff, Jonas, and I enjoyed a beautiful canvas of changing fall colors as we drove through the Pacific Northwest so I knew I had checked that off my Fall bucket list, but I was still hoping to make it to the WitchFest at Gardner Village or another fan festival...and I did. The day after, Jeff, Jonas and I returned from our trip (Wednesday, October 21st), I got to watch Laurin's kiddos. Carter had school so I took the girlies to find the witches at Gardner Village in the morning. I love how engaged Everly was in trying to find each of the witches. Even little Ava seemed to be fascinated with a few.

That weekend (Saturday, October 24th), I suggested going to Cornbelly's in Spanish Fork. Unbeknownst to me, however, the older kids had been talking amongst themselves about going to Frightmares at Lagoon. They gladly invited Jonas and I to tag along. I'm not a huge fan of the scary/gory side of Halloween; however, I do enjoy a good rollercoaster. Thankfully, the "scary" stuff wasn't really that scary. In fact, for most of the day, it just felt like another day at Lagoon (other than the fact that it was a bit more crowded). We hit all the big rides first then grabbed lunch before hitting a final few rides...and yes, even a haunted house. It wasn't super gory (thankfully) or really that scary (just the jump scares when people popped out). However, Laurin added to Jonas's scares when she would grab him from behind and scream. The first time she did it, I thought Jonas was going to collapse in my arms. After that, he grabbed my arm and wrapped it around him. However, it didn't stop Laurin from getting him on occasion, but he didn't seem overly annoyed. In fact, we all kind of laughed about it in the end. We stayed until about 9:00 then decided we were done. It may not have been a final Fall festival, but it definitely fit with the upcoming holiday!

Speaking of which, on Sunday (October 25th), I hosted our annual family Halloween party. We enjoyed a yummy soup dinner with spooky desserts. This year, Jeff, Jonas, and I were Alvin and the Chipmunks. Jonas was Alvin, Jeff was Theodore, and I was Simon. Kate even joined us. She dressed up as Max...Goofy's son. Everyone dressed up. Laurin's family were dressed up as animals and zoo keepers. Amber's family were ghosts. Dallin and Audrey were dressed up like the Lorax and Mr. Ohair. Danny and Addie were from the animated movie Transylvania. We carved pumpkins and the little kiddos (Jonas included) enjoyed a scavenger hunt for toys and treats. It isn't much, but I like our little tradition. I like hanging out as a family and seeing everyone's costumes. I may have to switch things up as the years go on, but for now, this seems sufficient.

And that's it. That's the extent of our Fall/Halloween celebrations. We will be on a cruise ship on Halloween. Looking at the itinerary, it appears like there will be some Halloween activities, but our traditions (spooky pancakes, jack-o-lantern pizza, trunk or treat, etc.) will be set aside this year. In fact, the day after our party, I took down the Halloween decor and put up Thanksgiving. The holiday feels a little undone, but I think we were able to maximize our Fall/Halloween activities as much as we could between all the events and vacations this month.
