Today we started our annual 12 Days of Service tradition with one of the kids' favorites - candy cane bombing the hospital parking lot! I love that our kids look forward to these little traditions. Perhaps nothing will come of it, but I hope that it will instill in them a lifelong desire to serve. I hope that they will recognize all the different types of service opportunities they have. I hope that they will always want to help others. I hope that they will remember the true meaning of this holiday season - to love, to serve, and to give of themselves. In any case, the boys helped me put the little tags on 100 candy canes before we headed to Provo. We picked up Amber (who wanted to make sure she got to participate) before we went to the hospital. Once there, the kids split up and quickly placed candy canes on each car. There seemed to be more cars than usual! The kids worked quickly while Jeff and Jonas waited in the back of the parking garage. We try our best to do this quickly so we can remain anonymous. Still, some individuals made it back to their cars before we were finished. It was rewarding to see the smiles on their faces as they discovered our small holiday gift. One family made sure to thank us as they drove by. Each year our mission is accomplished if we can just bring one smile to one person. I am positive we did so this year!
