Manhawk

Every year, Salem Hills High School sponsors a kid in the Make-A-Wish family. They organize fundraisers to help that child achieve his/her wish. This year, they sponsored an incredible 6-year-old boy named McKade. He has been battling leukemia for the last year and a half and recently received the good news that he was in remission! Still, there is so much need for funds to help these children receive their wishes. SHHS holds a Make-A-Wish week every year where the majority of the funds are raised. They hold basketball games, movie nights, the "Gorge" (basically picture Costco samples on steriods!), and Manhawk. Manhawk is a boys only dance crew competition. In September, Dallin's friends organized a crew and enlisted the help of a couple of their talented female friends to choreograph a dance. They have held 2-3 practices every week to prepare for this night...and it did not disappoint!! They were incredible! Who knew Dallin could dance?! The majority of the boys on the team were athletes, which paid off. Dallin was often the one performing the tumbling pieces and was even launched in the air! (As part of the rules, they could not have any throws so one person needed to be touching Dallin at all times, but the adrenaline was pumping and Dallin flew so high that even their 6'4" friend could not touch him with his arm stretched out as high as he could!) They slayed it! They were synchronized and had such a variety of moves, music, and routines. They were the only crew to get a standing ovation! The crowd went nuts!! At the end of the dance, they pulled out a poster that read, "McKade is..." and then turned around to show the backs of their shirts which said, "One of Us" (the SHHS theme of the year). The audience erupted!

Finally, the scores were tallied and they awaited the results. They were a little worried they were disqualified because of the throw, but after revealing 2nd and 3rd places without their team name being called (Team Kind...which is what was written on the front of their shirts), they finally heard "Team Kind" announced as the 1st place winners! The auditorium was on fire! Everyone cheered! The boys were awarded the trophy, but quickly handed it over to the kid who was the true winner, McKade. It's moments like this that make my mama heart so proud. I love this kid! I love his friends! I love the fact that they are kind and that they spread joy wherever they are! Great job Dallin!! Great job Team Kind! (If you want to see the dance, it was uploaded to YouTube by Cathi Chisholm. Go to: https://youtu.be/SRZhkUdqpEw)
