I think this is by far the family's favorite Christmas kindness activity - the drive thru. Each year, the kids will anonymously put money into an envelope. With that money, we embark on a sort of progressive fast food dinner. We go to as many drive thrus as we can. At each location, we'll order a few items then offer to pay for the person behind us. We do this until the money in the envelope is gone. I think on average we have gone to at least 4-5 drive thrus each year. The kids love looking at the car behind us and speculating about the people inside. Is it a single mom with kids? A big family? Hard working men or women just coming home from work? What would their reaction be? Will they pay it forward? We never really know, but that's what makes the evening magical (that and the boys can finally get whatever they want without having to compromise on one dinner location)!
