For those who know me, you know I love Santa! I adore the big man in red. My heart is touched by what Santa represents - love, giving, anonymity (he doesn't wait around for a thank-you), etc...and this year I love that Jonas is learning to love Santa! This is the first year that I can see the spark of magic light in his eyes. It has been thrilling to see that wonder in his face as he looks at Christmas lights or searches for our new friend, Jingle (the elf on our shelf), each morning. For a couple weeks, I have been talking to Jonas about Santa. He knows who he is and he knows that Santa brings presents. Jonas was quick to put in a request for a small tractor that he can drive! Well today I decided to take Jonas to see Santa to personally make his Christmas request. I honestly wasn't sure if Jonas would be brave enough to get close to Santa or to even sit on his lap, but I was pleasantly surprised. That morning, Jonas wrote a letter to Santa (because Santa can sometimes forget every little kid's request so we mailed him a letter as a reminder) then we made our way to the mall. All the way there, Jonas rehearsed what he would tell Santa. As we approached Santa's village, Jonas saw him and quickly waved. We waited our turn then I escorted Jonas to where Santa was sitting. There was definitely a bit of apprehension, but Jonas bravely told Santa what he wanted then independently sat on his lap for a picture! It was fun to see! I think the desire for a small tractor was what spurred the courage to sit on Santa's lap. Before we left, Santa gave Jonas a sucker and Jonas waved good-bye. There will always be magic in believing in Santa!
