A few entries back, I informed you that we have decided to start a new tradition of doing 12 days of service prior to Christmas. Jeff and I felt that our kids were getting lost in the selfish commercialism of the season and forgetting what this part of the year is all about. So, in an effort to bring back the real meaning of the season, we discussed doing 12 somewhat small acts of service each day leading up to Christmas Eve. Because we have such talented kids who are involved in so many sports and/or music activities, there were some service activities that had to be quick. Tonight was one of those activities. For our first day of service, each kid donated $1.28 to tape on four different Red Boxes. I had each of the kids put their money in a bag on which we wrote Merry Christmas and included a note that read, "Tonight the movie is on us." Since Dallin had his concert and Amber was at another choir obligation, Laurin and Danny were our little elves tonight. I have to be completely honest, after the bickering back and forth between Danny and Laurin as to how to appropriately attach the money to the machines, I wondered if the 12 Days of Service was going to be a good idea. I want the kids to be excited about these service opportunities but tonight it seemed more like a chore we just wanted to be done with rather than a real opportunity to serve. Still, we completed our little service task as I prayed that the other days there would be a more Chrislike attitude and spirit in our service endeavors.

We waited for a few minutes to see if anyone would notice the money, but everyone just walked by the machine. I guess that's good that someone just didn't take the money. Hopefully, whomever received the gift also received a little bit of the Christmas spirit.
Such a cool idea!!!!!
