Dallin's 14th birthday
Today Dallin turned 14 years old! It's hard to believe that I met him at age 11. I am so proud to be called his mom. He is an incredible young man! Sure, he's a teenager and has moments with his siblings (or parents) that aren't exactly positive, but I wouldn't trade him for the world. He has a heart of gold. He is so observant and willing to help. I never seem to have to tell him what to do. He is ready and willing to accept his responsibilities and does a thorough job in completing whatever task he is given. He has a positive attitude and loves his family. He is fun-loving and a good example to his friends. Whereas some boys his age may not be in touch with reality, Dallin seems to be well-grounded and makes good choices. We are so proud of the young man he is and excited to see the man he will become! For his birthday, we had a sugary pancake dinner before opening gifts (or should I say cards with money in them). Jeff and I got him his own .22 rifle. I realize this may be a nerve-raking gift for some parents to give a 14 year old, but Dallin is incredibly responsible with the guns we have and has demonstrated a maturity level to receive one. (Still, let's be honest...I still worry. It's a mom's job!) He was so excited! Later that evening, after dessert (yup, the sugary dinner wasn't enough), Dallin was holding on to the unloaded rifle as he laid on the floor conversing with the family. I think it's a gift he'll remember receiving for awhile. Overall, even though he has been sick, he seemed to have a great day! Happy birthday to the best 14 year old son we have!!
