Memorial Day

Most people think of this holiday as the unofficial start of the summer (even though my kids still have school through this week). This is typically a day of parties, BBQs, outings, and family; however, there is so much more meaning to this day. I am so grateful for a father and grandfather that instilled a love of country and family in each of us. I am grateful for the service they offered in the Navy during Vietnam and WWII (respectively). I am proud to be an American and recognize that the freedoms I enjoy aren't "free". I have traveled all over the world and seen the conditions in which other people. I am thankful to have been born in this country. I know we aren't perfect, but I feel that this was truly a country created under God's hands...and from the blood of many men and women who gave their all so I could have all. While I would love to say that our day was spent in complete reverence of this holiday, I cannot. We did, however, start the day off with a flag ceremony and ended it with a family home evening lesson about Memorial Day. In the middle, we had a breakfast with our ward (church congregation) and went to see the new movie Tomorrowland. We also had a little BBQ with Jeff's parents and sister. It was a really fun day...but not one that wasn't without reverence for the men and women who gave their lives for us.

Our Memorial Day family home evening activity and dessert!
Gotta love Patriotic desserts!
