And so it begins...all the end of school year activities! The other day Danny brought home a flier with a list of final activities he is participating in...and of course, he wanted to make sure I'd attend each and every one! I'm actually really happy to do so because I know that there will come a day when he won't be as excited to have Mom hanging around. Plus, it's nice to be busy. I don't like feeling stressed or overwhelmed, but I do enjoy having meaningful things to do. First up, I went to Danny's school to help out with the 4th grade Pioneer Day. Danny's class has been studying Utah history this year, and pioneers happen to be a big part of that history. It's kind of unique to live in a state where the state's secular history coincides with one's choice of religious history. In any case, I helped at the stone masonry activity. I briefly taught the kids about the profession of stone masonry (after quickly reading a sheet the teachers provided) then they got to chisel and drill some sandstone. To be honest, I was a little concerned about giving 4th graders hammers and chisels, but luckily there were no injuries! There were several other stations that the kids rotated through including butter making, candle making, wood work, rope making, etc. Danny had fun (and especially loved eating the crackers and butter!).
That evening (after watching another one of Dallin's track meet), Jeff and I attended Amber's dance concert. This semester Amber has taken Social Dance class. She has really enjoyed it. She's learned some of the most basic partner dances (waltz, tango, samba, etc.) Tonight her Social Dance class was invited to participate in the Dance Company's end of the year concert. I actually enjoyed the evening. I think Jeff endured it a little, but there were a few dances that he actually liked. I enjoyed how "clean" it was. There were no suggestive moves or song lyrics. I appreciate that about this area where we live. My only complaint was that there wasn't a large variety of dances (they all seemed to be modern or lyrical). I grew up in a very culturally diverse area; sometimes I miss the differences that can be present in such environments. Oh well...I guess there are pros and cons to everything. Still, Amber did a great job on her dance. It was a fun day!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words...well I think this one contains a whole descriptive essay on Amber! |
