Memorial Day 2025

Happy Memorial Day weekend! Saturday and Sunday were fairly routine. On Saturday (May 24th), Jonas and I attended Nolan's track meet in the morning. He competed in two races (200 meter, and 4x100 relay) and two field events (high jump and running long jump). The Alpine School District does things differently than Nebo. All the eligible grades get together to compete on Saturdays; plus, there are more events to participate in. Jonas was a little jealous. Nolan did a great job on his events. It's fun to watch these boys challenge themselves with new things.

After the track meet, Jonas and I headed to the Payson Cemetery where we placed roses on the headstones of those brave men and women who served in the armed forces. We have tried to do this on Memorial Day, but it's always so busy so we decided to do it early. We enjoy wandering through the rows of servicemen and women to see in what branch they served or in what war. Jonas (of course) gravitates towards the ones who served in WWII or Vietnam (because of my dad).

That evening, we grabbed Jeff and headed to the movie theater to see the first summer blockbuster, Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning. This was part two of the movie we watched last year. We loved it! I hope we get more fun summer movies.

Monday (May 26th) was Memorial Day. We started our morning with the WM 1st Ward annual Memorial Day Breakfast. We love being able to gather with our friends and neighbors to honor those brave men and women who gave all so that we can have all. We enjoyed a yummy breakfast and inspiring flag ceremony.

That evening, the Tanners and the Don Tarwaters came over for a low country boil and swimming. What a kick off to summer! We had a blast getting wet, filling our bellies, and then flying? Yup...before the evening was over, Jeff had pulled out the crane to show to Jordan and Don, and the next thing we knew, you kids were being hoisted in the air. Never a dull moment!

Jonas went to spend the night with the Tanners that night while Jeff and I elongated the weekend with a quick trip to Idaho Falls on Tuesday (May 27th).  We were able to join Bennett as he went through the temple for the first time. We also got to stick around for his pre-graduation dinner celebration before we headed home.
