CAKe: Acts 5-8

Today we enjoyed an evening of kindness. Life has been so busy! It's increasingly hard to find time when we are all available to perform our acts of kindness, but tonight we were miraculously all home with some time to spare so we grabbed a few prepared items and headed to town. In a little over an hour, we were able to deliver non-perishable foods to our community food box, drop off some laundry detergent and quarters to the laundromat, tape some money to items at Dollar Tree, and finally, hand out gift cards to a couple of people at Walmart.

At the dollar store, I love watching the boys consider what items would be most needed or most desired. They pick a variety of items that would likely cater to a variety of people and needs.

The Walmart act of kindness is always a special experience. It amazes me at how prayerful the boys are when considering who needs this gift card. Some years they can find that person or family quickly; other years it takes wandering around the store a few times before they can find that individual. This year, it took them a little longer to find someone. Jonas offered a prayer before we went into the store. In it, he asked to be led to the person or persons who could most use the gift card, even if they just had a "rough day". I walked with him around the store as he contemplated the individuals and families he saw. He kept questioning how he would "know". We discussed different ways we could receive revelation and in the end, decided that no matter who we chose, it would show that person kindness. As we walked around, there was one woman who stood out to him from all the others. He decided this was the person. She was so surprised and graciously received our gift. I think what I love more than the smile of the individuals who receive the gift cards is the smile that my boys walk away with. There is no wrong answer (or individual) when it comes to kindness.
