Happy 18th Birthday Danny

Well...we did it! Jeff and I didn't kill Danny before he was an adult. Now that may sound silly, but there were definitely moments. Ha ha! Danny has always carved his own path. He isn't one to conform. He goes after what he wants. These attributes have sometimes caused conflict in the parent-child relationship, but in many ways, they are attributes of a successful leader. Danny and I haven't always share the warm, fuzzy parent-child relationship you would hope to have. To say we are extremely different would be a gross understatement. He has tested every ounce of parental patience I've had; yet, he is the child that has given me the most opportunities to grow. I have never experienced so many stretching moments or had to face so many emotions. I think we're both learning and growing together. As he's entered his senior year, Jeff and I have seen more maturity and humility. We still have no clue what the future holds for Danny, but we have no doubt that Danny will conquer whatever comes his way. For his birthday, we had a family dinner on Sunday, December 4th. He couldn't decide on just one dessert so he had a whole charcuterie board filled with cake, cheesecake, and donuts.

On his actual birthday (Monday, December 5th), a couple of his friends joined him for a day on the slopes (no pictures). Should he have gone to school? Probably (especially because he failed to mention the two tests he was missing that day), but you only turn 18 once. Besides, Mother Nature gave him his favorite birthday gift - several inches of snow! That evening, Laurin and Casey joined him and a couple of friends for ice skating. Jonas was going to go (and by default Jeff and I), but he wasn't feeling too well so we opted to stay home. After skating, they grabbed some ice cream to cap off the birthday celebrations. Happy birthday Danny! May this year be your best yet!
