12 Days of Christmas Kindness: Day 7

Tonight's activity is another family favorite. Each year, Jeff and I have purchased Walmart gift cards and then have allowed each of the kids to graciously give them to someone at Walmart. I think this activity involves the most inspiration. Prior to going to Walmart, we said a prayer that the Lord would prompt us as to who could most benefit from this act of kindness - whether they needed the extra cash or because they simply needed kindness. The boys are incredibly careful and considerate as they wander the store in search of that person or family they feel needs the gift card the most. I love watching them labor over their decision. I love that they don't take this activity lightly. They truly are searching for "the one". Christ is our Savior. He emulated how important "the one" is during his life and ministry. He didn't just casually walk up to groups of people to preach. He was thoughtful in his dealings with the masses and merciful in his interactions with the one. Many of his greatest teaching moments weren't done in front of hoards of people, but rather with one individual. We didn't walk into the store with grand fanfare to flaunt our good deed. We went quietly in search of "the one"...and quickly walked away after the gift was given so as not to seek the adulation of men. I pray tonight's recipients will feel not only our love but the love of our Savior during this holiday season...and the year after.
