Moab: Day 1

Today was a day the kids have been anticipating for quite some time! MOAB!! Earlier on in the year, we decided to take our annual family vacation during Spring Break because I wasn't sure what conditioned I'd be in come summer (seeing as I'd be 7-8 months pregnant! Plus, as we looked at the kids' calendars, we realized it would be tough to find a week when no one had anything scheduled. Furthermore, both girls will be in school during the summer. Amber was accepted to the BYU summer semester and Laurin is finishing up her Associates at Weber before she goes on a mission. Whew! Never a dull moment!! In any case, since Amber is graduating this year we let her decide (within reason of course) what our family vacation should be. I threw out several destination spots we could visit, but she decided she simply wanted to go camping. Easy enough right?! Well in some aspects it was really easy; in other aspects (like meal planning and transporting everything to Moab) it seemed like a little more work, but it was all worth it in the end. The kids absolutely LOVED the trip...and even I was pleased with how comfortable it was even being 24 weeks pregnant. The first day of the trip was basically spent getting there and setting up camp. The kids went to school for the first half of the day while Jeff and I finished up some last minute packing and preparations. After lunch, we grabbed the kids and headed down. Jeff's dad was nice enough to accompany us for the whole trip (his mom and Katie showed up later to join us for a couple days) so I didn't have to drive one of the vehicles either pulling the camp trailer or all the machines (motor bikes, ATVs, side-by-side). Once we made it to our campsite, Jeff and the boys started to unpack while Amber and I headed into town to grab some pizza for dinner (I wanted to keep it simple on the first night). The rest of the evening was spent eating, shooting pellet guns, roasting marshmallows, and simply enjoying being together around a campfire. In fact, it was probably the most "relaxing" vacation in some regards because there was no agenda, no sites to quickly see, etc. Here are a few pics from our random moments throughout the weekend at the campsite:
Our campsite wasn't much to look at but it was quite and comfortable.
Shooting seemed to be the most favorite pastime.

One night we made vanilla ice cream in Ziploc bags. The kids quickly decided this needs to be a camping tradition!
What better way to enjoy vanilla ice cream than with some warm Dutch Oven peach cobbler!
