Fish Creek Falls and Veil

Today, after Jeff opened his birthday cards (he already received his present a couple months ago when he got the Blendtec), we checked out of the hotel and headed to Fish Creek Falls. Jeff was excited to be able to spend his birthday hiking a trail that he used to hike as a kid and young man. It was a gorgeous day...and the hike didn't disappoint. There were breathtaking views of the Colorado mountains and cascading waterfalls. The main falls were only a short walk from the parking lot, but we decided to continue to hike back further to some smaller, upper falls as well. I was a little chilly when we started our hike, but quickly warmed up as we continued on the hike. I had to stop a couple times to catch my breath. I forget that Colorado is at a much higher elevation, but the views were worth it. Plus, it was just fun to see the boys run and climb and simply enjoy being in God's beautiful creation.

Yup! That's snow! Only a small omen of what is to come!

The boys shimmied up this rock face and about scared me to death when Danny started to slip coming down! My adventurous little boys!

We finished the hike and headed back towards Steamboat Springs to grab some lunch. We found this fun diner, Johnny B. Good's. The food, service and atmosphere was great. The boys were bottomless pits! I swear I couldn't keep either of them full for more than an hour. Sheesh! What's going to happen when they're both teenagers!

Danny got to draw a picture on his place mat and hang it on the wall.

We left Steamboat Springs after lunch and headed towards Veil. Some of Jeff's friends were staying in a timeshare there and invited us to spend the night with them. We met up with them in the downtown area. We browsed a few shops then headed to a park to let the kids play before heading to the condo they were staying in. Jeff actually got to ride one of their mountain bikes on a bike path by the river towards the condo. He was in heaven! He used to ride a lot when he was younger and this has sparked his interest in riding again. We enjoyed spending the evening with the Searles and even made a little birthday cake for Jeff. It was another great day!
