12 Days of Service: Day 2

I think some of my prayers from the night before were answered. Today's service, although not what we had planned, was a much better experience! There was laughter and fun conversations and just overall good feelings as we set about to deliver a dozen donuts each to our local fire and police departments. We started at the Fire Department...but no one was there. That's what we get when our Fire Department is run by all volunteers. Why be at the station if you don't have to? So we decided to just drop off the 2 dozen cookies to the police station...only they closed at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays! I have to remember that I no longer live in a big city where these places are open all the time. We scrambled to find another great organization that we could deliver the donuts to. We tried the city offices but they were closed as well. We finally stumbled upon the Senior Citizens Center! It was still open! We walked inside and found a nice woman at a reception area. We presented her with the donuts and while she seemed a little overwhelmed with the quantity of donuts and the lack of Senior Citizens present at the center, she had a huge smile on her face and was excited to receive our gift. Things were looking up. I was starting to feel a little discouraged that our 12 Days of Service ideas weren't working out, but with a little perseverance, I think things are going in the right direction. I simply want the kids to know that there are many opportunities to serve - big and small. They don't always have to involve money, but do always need the right attitude and a willing, loving heart.
First attempt...
Second attempt...
Finally!
