12 Days of Service: Day 4

Today's service was a little more in depth than the past couple days. It was a three-part process - make the cookies, decorate the cookies, and deliver the cookies. We made and decorated sugar cookies then went caroling to specific families in our ward. Before we went to church, we knelt down for family prayer and prayed that we would be inspired as to who would best benefit from this service. After we made and decorated the cookies, we each made a specific plate for the family or individual we felt needed it the most. It was interesting to see how observant the kids were and how they perceived needs that were unknown to them. The Spirit was definitely touching their hearts. Each of them picked someone different as well. As you can imagine, the cookie making process was...well...a bit of a struggle with a few arguments as to how to best stir the batter or cut out the cookies or how to roll out the dough...but we succeeded and the cookies didn't suffer. The decorating process went much smoother and by the time we delivered them, there was laughter, love and fun! It has been heart-warming to see how, even though sibling squabbles are a natural part of family life, service has quelled those arguments as the Spirit has touched our hearts and left us focusing on others instead of ourselves. I look forward to the next 8 days of service!...and hopefully many more after that!
